The A-Level results were released today, and this milestone for so many young students has got us looking back at what SHINE’s been up to this year. We’d like to show you some of what’s been achieved with the help of our supporters, teachers, and project leaders…

We launched SHINE Labs. Along with our partners, The Primary Science Teaching Trust and The Ogden Trust, we launched SHINE’s new science program in six schools across London. The labs facilitate primary school science learning, by placing keen young minds in a setting that encourages exploration into biology, physics and chemistry learning. One school set up their lab in a dis-used London bus!

We’re working with 21 brilliant teachers. Through our annual Let Teachers SHINE competition and the London Teachers Innovation Fund that we ran this year, we’ve chosen to support 21 teacher-led projects. We’ll work with the ten Let Teachers SHINE winners as their projects target children who need innovative teaching methods and fun techniques that go beyond the classroom. We’ll also work with the eleven winners of the London Teachers Innovation Fund, as they share their expert subject knowledge and pioneering ideas with their peers, encouraging high quality teaching across London schools.

SHINE graduation 2
SHINE’s Saturday students graduated. We run 43 Saturday programs with primary and secondary school children across the country, injecting 20% extra tuition into every school week to accelerate and complement their classroom learning. The schools celebrated the excellent progress made by the students in the program with graduation ceremonies especially for them.

We’ve reached thousands of children this school year. 91 SHINE projects ran in the 2015-2016 academic year. It’s taken a lot of work from our partner schools, teachers and project leaders to get our extra education initiatives to the children who need them. We’re continually grateful for all the passion and expertise they show in encouraging young people to excel both at school and beyond it.

It’s all thanks to you. Without the help of our supporters we wouldn’t be able to reach our goal of helping every child fulfil their potential. We’d especially like to thank everyone who gave and supported the 2015 SHINE Benefit Dinner , making it such a huge success. We’re grateful to all of our supporters who stand with us to provide equal opportunities in education, and hope to be with you in 2020 when we aim to have reached 200,000 children with our projects.
