The start of 2017 will bring some exciting changes at SHINE, with a new Interim Chief Executive in post, Clare Gilhooly. Clare has worked with SHINE over the last four years and will be stepping in to her new role from January 2017. She will be closely supported during this transition by Fiona Spellman who will become SHINE’s Interim Deputy Chief Executive.

Clare brings with her a wealth of experience: she was the Chief Executive of Cambridge House, Southwark for eight years. She took this large and vibrant community based organisation into the delivery of new services, and expanded their reach into new geographical areas, whilst developing award winning corporate relationships and completing a stunning £5.74 million re-development of the organisations original Georgian premises. She has previously worked for the Barrow Cadbury Trust and was an Advisory Body member for the Office for Civil Society (Cabinet Office) advising Ministers on matters relating to Civil Society organisations. Clare has undertaken a number of Trustee roles including national memberships bodies, a children’s centre and a young people’s grant making trust.

About the new role, Clare says “I am very excited about this opportunity to work with a team that I already know so well and to help move SHINE forward into the future.”

Sadly, we will be saying goodbye to Paul Carbury, SHINE’s Chief Executive since 2011, as he takes up a new opportunity with a charitable trust in the West Midlands. We are grateful for the leadership and commitment to SHINE’s mission that Paul has brought over almost six years. His ability to bring in new funding sources and steer us into the world of teacher led innovations whilst keeping some of SHINE’s key programmes true to their vision has been instrumental. We wish him all the best.
