Serious Fun on Saturdays @ The Manchester Grammar School
The grant recipient
The Manchester Grammar School has excellent facilities and inspections have drawn attention to its extraordinary range of extra-curricular activities. Through a Serious Fun on Saturdays programme, the school is working with the Government's 'Excellence In Cities' initiative to make some of these benefits available to children from local primary schools, which have been identified as disadvantaged.
The programme
- 13 Saturday morning sessions
- for 20 gifted primary students from 10 schools in Manchester
- teachers from The Manchester Grammar School
- looking at problem-solving and learning for mathematicians

- in the first term 39% of students recorded full attendance
The funding
SHINE has made a grant for running costs. Further funding and in-kind support comes from Excellence in Cities and The Manchester Grammar School.
