SHINE on Saturday @ Buxton
The grant recipient

Buxton is an all through primary and secondary school in the London borough of Waltham Forest. It has built up a wide range of out-of-school-hours activities and serves a diverse community with high levels of deprivation and low educational aspirations.
The programme
SHINE @ Buxton is for 30 students from years 4, 5 and 60 students from year 7 at the school. The core target group is students not achieving the nationally expected level for their age.
Latest results
- the percentage of year 7 students who were working below the standard expected for their age fell from 59% to 31% in literacy and from 52% to 23% in numeracy
- parents and staff fed back that students had gained in confidence and self-esteem
The funding
SHINE has made a grant to part-fund set-up and project expansion costs. Additional funding for project management is provided in-kind by the school.
Funding: £250,425 to Buxton (formerly Tom Hood) School, over six years (2006-12)
