Buxton is an Extended Service secondary school in the London borough of Waltham Forest. It has built up a wide range of out-of-school-hours activities and serves a diverse community with high levels of deprivation and low educational aspirations.

The programme

SHINE @ Buxton is for 30 students from years 4, 5 and 7 at the school. The core target group is students not achieving the nationally expected level for their age.

Latest results

  • In one year small numbers of students made progress in English and maths expected over two years.
  • 22 new students joined in the summer term.

The funding

SHINE has made a grant to part-fund set-up and project expansion costs. Additional funding for project management is provided in-kind by the school.
