SHINE ON SATURDAY @ CHINGFORD HALL
The grant recipient
Pupils from Chingford Hall Primary School and Whittingham Primary School will come together in this SHINE on Saturdays project based in Waltham Forest. Across both schools more than half the students claim Free School Meals and attainment on entry is well below the national average. Most of the students also come from ethnic minority backgrounds. Despite these challenging circumstances, Chingford Hall Primary School is an outstanding school (Ofsted, March 2011).
The programme
Chingford Hall’s SHINE on Saturday programme will target students in years 4 and 5 who are underachieving. The programme aims to:
- Achieve 95% attendance.
- Ensure that all students make at least 2 sublevels of progress in reading, writing and maths.
- Help pupils develop their confidence and self-esteem.
The programme will cover a number of different subjects within a broad thematic approach. In the first term the theme will be My World.
The funding
£180,000 over three years (£60,000 each year). To cover teaching costs, resources, assistance for pupils and equipment.
