SHINE on Saturday @ Hillyfield
The grant recipient

Hillyfield Primary School is situated in the Higham Hill ward of the London Borough of Waltham Forest. This is one of the poorest areas of the country: 80% of children at the school are from different ethnic backgrounds, many children are involved with social services and most families feeding the school suffer from financial hardship. The school has successful track records in delivering additional out-of-school-hours projects and raising attainment.
The programme
SHINE @ Hillyfield is for 60 students from years 4 and 5 (8-10 year olds) and targets gifted and talented children at the school who are underachieving.
Lates results
- measured against national standards in literacy and numeracy, SHINE students in all year groups outperformed the school cohort
- the average weekly attendance was 89%
The funding
SHINE has made a grant for set up and running costs and the school is making a contribution towards administrative costs.
