Serious Fun on Saturdays @ Forest School

The grant recipient

The Forest School takes pride in academic success whilst ensuring that their extensive extra-curricular activities are available to all. Situated in North London and with strong links to the local community, this is a vibrant place to study and an exceptional location for a Serious Fun project.

The programme

  • The Forest School will run an Emerging Scholars project which will benefit between 30 and 80 state school girls each year.
  • The programme will target gifted girls from three state secondary schools in nearby Newham.
  • Ten monthly Saturday sessions will cover diverse topics from outside the typical curriculum. It will focus especially on developing critical thinking and creative skills through workshops and small teaching groups.
  • Classes will be led by teachers from both sectors and supported by peer mentors.
  • The aim of the programme is to improve aspirations, achievement and improve attitudes to learning.
  • The programme will be governed by the Heads of the four participating schools.

The funding

£42,746 over three years. This will contribute to the delivery costs such as transport, equipment and staff pay.
