Serious Fun on Saturdays @ Norwich School

The grant recipient

Norwich School is a co-educational independent day school, dating back to the 11th century. The school is well known for being outstanding in its teaching and achievement. It is also admired for its extensive and successful outreach programmes within the local area.

As 75% of the global population speak no English at all, the UK is crying out for more diversity in language appreciation. This programme will therfore focus on providing language classes for local state school students giving them tuition and a taste and appreciation for languages.

The programme

  • 26 Saturday morning sessions with each child attending for between 8 and 12 mornings.
  • As well as providing enrichment classes for National Curriculum subjects, the pupils will also be able to try their hand at more unusual languages such as Russian and Finnish.
  • Pupils will learn the importance of foreign languages and their relation to potential career paths, travel and further education.
  • The programme will be run in partnership with a local state secondary school and the University of East Anglia.

The funding

Funding: £43,050 over three years (£14,350 for each of three years). This will go towards transport, equipment and staff costs.
