SHINE on Saturday @ Archbishop Sumner
The grant recipient

Archbishop Sumner Primary School is an inner-city school and most of its students live in rented housing. It is the only Full Serviced Extended primary school in Lambeth and has a successful track record in delivering extended hours learning opportunities for students.
The programme
SHINE @ Archbishop Sumner takes 60 underachieving students in years 4, 5 and 6 (7-11 year olds) from the school and seven other local schools.
Latest results
- 54% of students now have a reading age at or above their chronological age, compared to 30% at the beginning of the year
- Case studies illustrate that students benefited hugely from individual attention to their social, behavioural and educational needs. Students newly arrived in the country with very basic learning skills made accelerated progress well beyond expected.

"We are very excited about the ABS SHINE on Saturday programme. It is over-subscribed by the eight schools participating from North Lambeth, an area which needs so many resources to ensure equality of opportunity."
