SHINE on Saturday @ Hungerford
The grant recipient

Hungerford Primary School takes most of its students from the local housing estates and when they join the school their attainment is low. The school is a feeder to Holloway Secondary where there is also a SHINE on Saturday programme. Hungerford has very good links with the community and a successful track record in delivering additional out-of-school-hours learning opportunities to children.
The programme
SHINE @ Hungerford works with 60 underachieving students from years 4, 5 and 6 (7-11 year olds) at the school.
The programme was described in the Hungerford’s latest Ofsted report as being:
"highly imaginative and helping a lot of the older pupils to improve their learning."
Latest results
- in English and maths some students make progress of almost two full National Curriculum levels - this progress would normally be made over 4 years
The funding
SHINE has made grants for set up and running costs.
Funding: £247,280 to Brecknock Primary School, over four years (2004-08)
