SHINE on Saturday in Merton

The grant recipient

Rutlish secondary is one in a partnership of schools that have come together for this project. It also includes three primaries and a special school in the Mitcham town area of Merton. This has a high percentage of families on low wages or working tax credit and a lack of structured enrichment programmes for children at the weekend. All the schools currently run after school activities and have experience of targeting hard to reach groups, including through an earlier Saturday project that was piloted before applying to SHINE.

The programme

SHINE Merton is for 60 students in years 6 and 7 (10-12 years old) and targets students from the most deprived backgrounds.

The funding

SHINE has made a grant for set up and running costs and is delighted to be funding this project in partnership with the Taylor Family Foundation http://www.thetaylorfamilyfoundation.com. The schools and Merton Council are also providing in-kind and cash support for the programme.

Funding: £144,150 to Rutlish Secondary School, over three years (2009-12)
