The Enterprise Education Trust is a charitable trust which exists to promote the development of entrepreneurial skills. Around 60,000 young people take part in their programmes each year.
The SHINE Young Entrepreneurs project
What it aims to do
This project is based on the NFTE programme (the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship) which was originally developed in New York to teach the principles of business to underachieving and disaffected young people from low income communities and is now internationally recognised. The programme teaches key enterprise skills (including planning, budgeting and written communication) through the development of real life business activities. It is designed to raise aspirations, achievements and employability skills and the practical and experiential learning style distinguishes it from school.
How SHINE Young Entrepreneurs works
The programme is a year long course that can be run in or outside school and is delivered by consultants and teachers who are NFTE trained and supported. SHINE Young Entrepreneurs is for secondary students from three schools in Manchester, it is delivered partly at school during the week and partly through Saturday business workshops.
Results
NFTE has been proven to re-engage and inspire disaffected students and is the only enterprise education provider in the UK that has curriculum and teaching resources mapped and accredited to the national qualifications framework.
Students on the programme can enter for an award equivalent to a level B at GCSE. The Enterprise Education Trust's latest results show over 90% of the 300 students entered for the award achieved it.

SHINE has made a grant to develop and run SHINE Young Entrepreneurs in Manchester.
