SHINE on Saturday @ Preston Manor CLC
The grant recipient
Preston Manor City Learning Centre is a digital media centre in Wembley, Brent. The majority of Wembley's population are first generation immigrants and the area has the highest numbers of young people not in education in the borough. The centre has already developed and delivered a number of innovative educational projects and evaluations highlight good attendance, wonderful facilities, the alternative learning environment and specialist professionals.
The programme
SHINE @ Preston Manor CLC is for 60 students in years 6 and 7 (10-12 years old) from three secondaries and eight primaries. The project aims to keep young people excited about and engaged in learning as they transfer between schools. Programme activities are split between two sites giving students access to multimedia facilities and the natural environment.
- Average weekly attendance in the autumn term was 83%.
- A feature of this project is regular field visits to the Brent Reservoir Field study centre.
The funding
SHINE has made a grant to fund the set up and running costs.
