Withington Girls' School is a leading independent day school in Manchester. It is situated close to the extremely challenging areas of Moss Side and Hulme, and many of the local primary schools have required support to tackle the effects of social and economic deprivation traditionally associated with major urban conurbations.

The programme

  • 20 Saturday morning science workshops during the year, to include robotics and forensic investigation
  • for 26 gifted students in year 6 (10-11 year olds) from local state primaries
  • sessions are taught by specialists from the independent and state sectors
  • the aim is to enthuse and inspire young scientists at a time of national shortage

Latest results

  • 59% achieved level 5 in science at the end of KS2
